Autism Assessment

I am a qualified autism assessor using the ADOS-2 diagnostic measure.
The ADOS-2 is internationally recognised as the gold-standard observational assessment for autism. When used alongside developmental history and clinical information, it provides a robust and evidence-based contribution to the diagnostic process.

If the assessment supports an autism diagnosis

Parents often find that it:
Provides clarity and understanding about why their child experiences the world differently.
Helps explain behaviours that may previously have been misunderstood as “difficult”, “defiant”, or “antisocial”.
Reduces self-blame and parent guilt by offering a framework for understanding their child’s challenges and strengths.
Gives access to support and services, depending on local policies and eligibility criteria.
Helps schools make appropriate adjustments and understand a child’s communication, sensory, social, and emotional needs.
Guides intervention and support planning by identifying areas where the child may need additional help.
Connects families with autistic communities and sources of information, support, and advocacy.

Even if the assessment does not support an autism diagnosis

The assessment can still be valuable because it:
• Highlights a child’s communication style and social strengths.
• Identifies areas of difficulty that may require further investigation.
• Helps clinicians consider other explanations, such as anxiety, language difficulties, ADHD, trauma, or social communication differences.
• Provides detailed observations that can inform future support.
It can help parents to:
• Better understand their child’s strengths and needs.
• Gain clarity about social, communication, and sensory differences.
• Inform support strategies at home and school.
• Access appropriate services and adjustments where needed.
Most importantly, it helps families make informed decisions about the support that will best help their child thrive.
Autism assessments involve many aspects and you may already be facing long waits of a year or more to get the diagnosis you or your child deserves.
I can offer a friendly initial consultation to see if an ADOS-2 assessment would be appropriate.
