So much pressure at Xmas time. Parents putting themselves under stress to create a magical time for their children. TV advertising and expectations to provide far more than what a child needs or for that matter what any of us need. Music blaring out at the supermarket tills, even in the gym today. “Have yourself a merry little Xmas” “May all your Christmases be white”. There is an conscious and unconscious need to re-create an ideal of a time long gone by. But in those days past there were no computer games or iPads. Children were happy with what they had because they knew no different. How many of you remember getting one toy and being overjoyed?
Happiness will not be found in toys, games and debt. Happiness and joy are available to us all 365 days a year. It is all around us, in nature, in books, in the warmth of a hug, in the smell of a home cooked meal.
So, if you are struggling right now, feeling guilty, under pressure to get things right remember this:
The best gift you can give your children is yourself, fully present to them, your truth, your honesty and your love.
Wishing you all a happy time with those that you love.
